William Black photograph collection at DeKalb History Center

Chamblee High School cheerleaders in the 1970s, from the William Black photograph collection, DeKalb History Center archives

Among the amazing archives of DeKalb History Center are photograph collections, including the William Black photo collection. William Black was the staff photographer and yearbook photographer at Chamblee High School from the late 1940s through the 1960s. He also took photos for Briarcliff and Cross Keys High Schools.

The high school photographs include sports teams, cheerleaders, buildings, dances, and pageants. Also included in the collection are wedding photos, individual portraits, Emory Fire Department, and the Swan Coach House. There is much more in the collection.

DeKalb History Center is in the process of digitizing the photographs and has posted a sample of the collection on their website.

I’m including three of the photos in this post. The complete collection can be viewed by making an appointment to visit the DeKalb History Center Archives. Visit this page and scroll down to the bottom of the page to select “Contact the Archives.”

Some of the descriptions do not include individual’s names or other details. If you have information about these photographs that would be helpful, please use the link above to contact the archives or you can email me at pasttensega@gmail.com and I will pass along the information.
